Truco

About Truco

Truco is a popular trick-taking card game with several regional variants (notably in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and parts of Spain). It is often played with a 40-card Spanish deck or a standard deck with certain cards removed. Players form teams (commonly two vs two) or play one-on-one depending on the variant.

The game features rounds called "hands" where players play cards in tricks. A distinctive feature of Truco is the use of escalating challenges — players can call "Truco" to raise the point value of the hand, and opponents may accept, raise further, or fold. This introduces psychology and bluffing alongside tactical card play.

Truco emphasizes communication (often via permitted or semi-permitted signals in informal play), partnership cooperation, and quick decision-making. Rules vary by region, so it's common to agree on the variant before playing.
